Chongjin economic development zone contains 3.7㎢ in area including some parts of Wolpho ri, Songphyong district, Chongjin city and Suson dong and 1.7㎢ in area of Namsok ri.

It is planning to create economic development zone in combination with intermediate transit of international cargo using Chongjin Port majoring in metal processing, machine manufacturing, wood and electronic goods production, production, export and processing of light industrial goods. 

It is planning to develop second and third production base of metal processed goods using steel goods produced in Kim Chaek Iron and Steel Complex in Namsok-ri, manufacturing base of machines and electronic goods while majoring in production and processing of hydraulic machine, precision machine, robot and rolling stocks, series of production, export and processing base of wood and light industrial goods. 

It is going to develop intermediate transit of cargo with China and other countries, bonded processing and trade via it by reconstructing and expanding Chongjin Port. And also it is going to increase the portion of technical intensified processing industry, relying on scientific and technical source.
